A big day at Saratoga yesterday, but today's cards at both Saratoga and Del Mar look very lean. Anyway, here's what I see for today.
5th Race Saratoga-A nice looking group for this baby race at the Spa sees us putting 20 units to Win & Place on#2 Mommasgottarun (3-1). She ran a bang-up debut and Tyler returns in the saddle on what should be Graduation Day for this talented filly. Tyler Gaffalione has been the quiet secret of this meeting, coming in from Kentucky where he was well known for his aggressive riding style and strong finishes. We cashed a lot of tickets which paid overlaid prices earlier in the meet. This filly has had a nice work in 48:3 breezing after her debut and that tells me she is ready to fire again. I am also recommending 5-unit exacta boxes 2-1, 2-9 & 2-11, all firsters that could be any kind to round out the rest of the tote board.
4th Race Del Mar-First timer #3 Workin Ninetofive (5-1) has me intrigued in a weak $50k maiden claimer for 2 year-olds. With a consistent work tab under her belt and Pyfer in the saddle, this filly could go wire to wire at a nice price. I am playing 20 units Win & Place on her along with 5-unit exacta boxes 3-2, 3-1 & 3-11 (if she draws in from the AE). Also use her for a 5-unit double with #3 Warfront Fighter in the 5th Race.
5th Race Del Mar-New York shipper #3 Warfront Fighter (3-1) comes to Del Mar with sharp NY form and should graduate with any effort even close to his NY races. A sharp 4F in 47:4 back on August 7th tells me he shipped well and a consistent work tab keeps him on his toes after that. There are no "world beaters" here and that should make his task easier. I am playing 20 units to Win & Place on him along with 5-unit exacta boxes 3-1, 3-7 & 3-8.
9th Race Del Mar-#2 Medina Spirit (7-5) begins and ends the conversation here. If he is ready (and her 58:3 workout says YES) he will absolutely jog home. I am playing 40 units to WIN on this talented colt and 10-unit exactas 2-3 and 2-4.
